Volkswagen Will No Longer Manufacture The Beetle

There are billions of people on the planet, and billions of people driving cars around that planet. One of the first super popular and beloved cars in mainstream America was the beetle. The Volkswagen car is a classic and has been around for more than seven decades. It’s is an incredibly well-known convertible, which can be identified easily by its unique design.

Now, in the age where the electric car is on the rise, Volkswagen has made the decision to no longer produce the Volkswagen Beetle. The car, which has been around for seven decades, is only on its third generation in terms of style and upgrades, so it’s still a very similar style of car to see on the roads.

VW Group of America released a statement explaining the decision. “The loss of the Beetle after three generations, over nearly seven decades, will evoke a host of emotions from the Beetle’s many devoted fans. As we move to being a full-line, family-focused automaker in the US and ramp up our electrification strategy with the MEB platform, there are no immediate plans to replace it. But as we have seen with the I.D. Buzz—which is the modern and practical interpretation of the legendary Bus—I would also say, “Never say never.”‘

The third generation of the Beetle will cease production in July 2019, with no more cars being produced. Therefore, if you want to drive this car or earlier generations of it, you need to find one to buy from another consumer or refurbish. This third generation of Beetle’s was first introduced to the market back in 2011 and includes the top down convertible version.

Volkswagen will continue to push electric cars for the time being, with the next new car expected to be a retro-inspired minivan, which will be arriving sometime in 2020.
