Everyone carries a secret or two — the kind you hope no one ever uncovers. But when you’re a politician, you have to expect your dirty laundry will get dragged out into the public. And if you’re a candidate for president, the American people are even more interested in even the slightest information you’ve been trying to hide.
No one wants to vote for a potential president who’s got a lot of skeletons in their closet. During the 2016 election, plenty of dirt about the candidates made international news as reporters found out increasingly damaging facts. Now, as an entirely new election cycle begins, Americans are just getting to know the newest presidential candidates. It’s only a matter of time before voters find out what secrets they’ve been keeping.
As the 2020 election draws closer, now’s your chance to learn more about the candidates — and what they’ve been trying to hide from voters — with this list of weird, shocking, and even completely terrible facts.
Amy Klobuchar is Cruel to Her Staff
Politics is a tough field to work in, but it’s exceptionally difficult if your boss is a total jerk. And, according to former staffers, Senator Amy Klobuchar is one of the absolutely worst people to work under.
Although Klobuchar’s 2020 campaign recently got underway, at least three people have already resigned. The Democratic candidate is apparently known to mistreat her staff, demeaning members of her team and exploding into outbursts of cruelty. She sends emails in the middle of the night, criticizes employees’ work in front of others, and even threw a binder (that “accidentally” hit a staffer) in the office.
Klobuchar disputes the rumors, and a spokesperson for her campaign claims the senator “loves her staff.” But staffers say it’s very difficult to work with Klobuchar for any length of time.
Beto O’Rourke Was Arrested for Driving While Drunk
Back in 1998, presidential hopeful Beto O’Rourke made the terrible decision to get behind the wheel of his car. The problem? He was drunk. And because he was driving while intoxicated, he caused a crash.
O’Rourke was caught by a member of the Anthony Police Department in his home state of Texas, and he was very clearly driving under the influence. O’Rourke admits that he made a mistake and definitely was intoxicated. But to make matters worse, some police officers involved are now saying the former member of the House of Representatives tried to flee the scene — however, others are saying this isn’t true.
Everyone makes regrettable mistakes when they’re young, but this is certainly one O’Rourke wishes hadn’t happened. On the campaign trail, he’s been expressing regret and saying he wished he’d never gotten in the car.
