When a criminal faces their execution, they are allowed to choose their last meal, within reason. Here’s a list of famous criminals and the food they picked:
This German killer from the 1930’s sometimes drank blood from his victims, so the press called him “The Vampire of Dusseldorf.” In 1931, he was sentenced to death on nine counts of murder and seven counts of attempted murder. For his last meal, he asked for fried potatoes, Wienerschnitzel (thin breaded veal), and white wine.
John Wayne Gacy
One of history’s most notorious serial killers, John Wayne Gacy was executed in 1994. For his final dinner, he got fried chicken, fried shrimp, and French fries. For dessert, he kept it simple: strawberries.
The Oklahoma City bomber was executed in 2001, but not before he got his final meal: two pints of chocolate chip ice cream.
Bruno Richard Hauptmann
The disappearance of the Lindbergh baby was a huge story that ended in tragedy, when it was revealed that the child had died in a botched kidnapping. The killer, Bruno Richard Hauptmann, was executed in 1936. For his last meal, he had chicken, French fries, olives, celery, buttered peas, cherries, and a piece of cake.
The last man executed in Iowa, Victor Feguer died by hanging in 1963. He had an unusual last meal request: one olive, with a pit. He told his guards he hoped an olive tree would grow from his grave as a symbol of peace. After his death, authorities found the pit in his suit pocket.
The subject of the Oscar-winning film Monster, Aileen Wuornos was convicted of killing six men. She was executed in 2002, but refused her final meal, which could have been anything under $20. Instead, she asked for one cup of coffee.
